About Us

About Spectrum of Dreams

Spectrum of Dreams was started by Tim and Trish Szlosek, who know first hand that raising a special needs child requires specific resources.

Tim’s son, Shane, was born in May of 2005 and by all evaluations was as normal as could be. Like most parents, Tim and Trish did their best to develop Shane in every way that they could, hoping to give him every early advantage – Baby Einstein and all.

It was becoming clear by the age of one that Shane was behind in his speech, motor skills and in his ability to process information. He was diagnosed with autism shortly thereafter and their family’s lives changed permanently.

They are fortunate and thankful to have jobs and resources to help develop Shane as best as they know how. There are so many that are not as lucky as they are and that is what brings us here today.

The mission is to help special needs children and their families who require financial resources by providing support that enhances their life skills, education and quality of life.

Tim and Trish have since recruited others to help him along with this mission, creating Spectrum Of Dreams.

Please join us on this journey.

What People Say

The Spectrum of Dreams organization has been a dream come true for the Sachem staff, students and families. This organization has developed a great partnership with our schools and their dedication to our students with special needs has been unparalleled. Just to name a few of the ways that this organization has helped: Spectrum sponsored three bowling events for our students, provided years of transition scholarships, paid for specialty evaluations, funded the upstart of our corner café which is run by students with special needs and helped to provide gift cards to families who were experiencing financial difficulties. I continue to be amazed at the level of commitment that this organization puts into responding to the diverse needs of our community members. We are so grateful to have their continued support and generosity.

My name is Kathy Erdmann and I am a special education teacher at Wenonah Elementary School in Sachem. We received your very generous donation of an IPad 3 last Friday from your organization. I would like to thank you personally for this Ipad. My students enjoy the different apps, and there is such an abundance of programs that are free or at a low price. Our four 8:1:1 classes are going to share the Ipad. Thank you again for your generosity.
